East Central
The East Central neighborhood is home to the Indiana Tech campus, great Rivergreenway trail views, and some of Fort Wayne's black history at the African American History Museum and Turner Chapel. East Central has always been a melting pot - it started in 1837 as a welcoming place for free African Americans and German and Italian immigrants and has turned into a vibrant mosaic of diverse history and cultures.
Must Do
- Attend the Farmers Market at the Olde East End Building October through April.
- Check out the Indiana Tech campus to catch great sports and a revitalized neighborhood.
- Enjoy the splash pad at Memorial Park.
Restaurants
Several neighborhood haunts include Summit City Brewerks, El Salvador, Max's Bistro, and Central Grounds Coffee. This neighborhood includes some delicious international cuisine.
Parks
Memorial Park offers a great splash pad and also serves as a tribute to the men and women of Fort Wayne and Allen County who gave their lives in service of their country during World War I. It also includes a monument to aviation pioneer, originator of skywriting and Fort Wayne resident Art Smith.
