1. Fort Wayne Zoo
Cory says the Fort Wayne Zoo is a must! There are so many incredible animals and it's easy to get around as a wheelchair user. And, while some of the paths can be a bit bumpy, they are definitely manageable.
2. Botanical Conservatory
One of his personal favorites was the Botanical Conservatory where you can visit several indoor areas as well as their outdoor gardens.
3. Science Central
For a family-friendly and interactive experience, Science Central offers incredible exhibits over multiple floors with elevator access to each within the historic building. The companion care restroom with an adult-sized changing table is great for all visitors.
4. Fort Wayne Museum of Art
He loved checking out the exhibits at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art where everything is all on one floor making it easy to access all of the areas.
5. Sweet Breeze Riverboat Tours
A unique experience that you can take advantage of as a wheelchair user is a Sweet Breeze Riverboat Tour, offering a smooth ramp from dock to boat making it easy to board. Leaving from beautiful Promenade Park, he enjoyed the 60-minute tour of Fort Wayne's three rivers, seeing wildlife along the way and listening to the guide explain the history of the area.
6. Allen County Public Library
In the heart of downtown, the Main Branch of the Allen County Public Library houses some of the city's most unique attractions. The Rolland Center for Lincoln Research provides rare artifacts and history from Lincoln's life and times. The library is also home to the Genealogy Center which is the second largest in the country. You can learn all about your family history in this collection of documents, artifacts, maps, and records.
7. LC Nature Park
Just southwest of Fort Wayne, LC Nature Park has over 300 acres dedicated to providing transformative, educational experiences. You can learn all about Indiana's natural heritage and even see the Bison and Elk that live on the property. There are also wheelchair friendly trails to enjoy made with hard packed gravel. Just note, they can be a bit steep in areas.
8. YLNI Barr Street Farmer's Market
Lastly, if you're in Fort Wayne on a Saturday from May - October, he highly recommends checking out the 150 vendors at the YLNI Barr Street Farmer's Market. All of the vendors are local and it's one of the largest markets that Cory has ever visited.
