Fort Wayne Museum of Art
What is something at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art or in the arts community that many people don't know about?
We are home to the largest public Studio Glass Collection in Indiana, rivaling Toledo Museum of Art, making it the most cited aspect of the Museum experience by visitors. The collection has grown by 700% in the last 20 years from 1,100 objects then, to over 7,000 today!
We provide the only source of free visual arts enrichment for 15,000 PreK-12 students from throughout Northeast Indiana.
The Print and Drawing Study Center is an intimate space just off the museum galleries that anyone can enjoy. Visitors will be treated to individualized attention from the Curator of Prints and Drawings, Sachi Yanari Rizzo, who will guide each visitor through the various printmaking processes and give examples of different types of prints.
What's an untold story about the Fort Wayne Museum of Art that needs to be heard?
The Paradigm Gallery is a year-round spotlight on 65 local and regional artists who sell their work at FWMoA. We use the Paradigm Gallery as the springboard for other projects throughout the Museum, such as giving Paradigm artists museum exhibitions and inviting them to give demonstrations during our 2nd Thursday series.
For over 100 years the Fort Wayne Museum of Art has leveraged the power of art to engage and educate broad and diverse audiences throughout the region. For many people, art and museums seem inaccessible or irrelevant and many people feel “unqualified” to engage with art, but this is simply not true. Life experiences are qualification enough to enjoy the creative work of others.
What's your favorite "did you know" fact about the Fort Wayne Museum of Art?
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art has been built by and for this community. In 1921, the artists of the West Central community got together to create the first art museum and school in the city, and in 1984, that same community made the commitment to downtown Fort Wayne with our first professional art museum. In 2010, we expanded to be the kind of art museum this city needed. Everyone pitches in to make this their museum!
