FORT WAYNE, IN (February 14, 2020) -- President’s Day weekend is shaping up to be a busy time for sports events in Fort Wayne this year.

Fort Wayne hotels, restaurants, and attractions will see a significant increase in business as more than 24,900 visitors enter our city over the holiday weekend. Dance and gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and wrestling, plus the annual Fort Wayne Boat Show will bring in this diverse group of visitors over the February 14th weekend.

At Visit Fort Wayne, we work to improve the quality of life for all our residents by promoting, attracting, and hosting visitors so we can derive the economic and social benefits of a prosperous tourism industry.

Resident benefits include new customers to support our attractions, paying taxes so residents don't have to pay as much, and bringing new business to hundreds of small businesses that employ thousands of residents.

The Memorial Coliseum will see 12,500 attendees over the weekend for the IHSAA Boys Semi-State Wrestling event happening that Saturday, and the Fort Wayne Boat Show, February 13 – 16, now in its 39th consecutive year with more than 57 exhibitors.

Two Dance & Gymnastics events will take place in Fort Wayne over the three day period with the Walk of Fame Classic at the Plassman Athletic Center at Turnstone, and Speedy JAM Jamfest at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. Both events will draw a cumulative 5,000 attendees to the city.

In addition, the Empowered Volleyball Academy & Pro Beach Junior leagues will bring 7,000 attendees to the Empowered Sports Club for their 2020 President's Day Smackfest, happening that Saturday and Sunday.

At The Plex South, the Indoor Soccer Winter College Showcase (Girls), hosted by the Fort Wayne United Futbol Club, will host an expected 410 attendees from the 14th – 16th.

The investment in the construction of our leading convention centers and sports venues continues to pay off as we are able to offer these destinations to local and traveling organizations. These hosting opportunities are a key ingredient to creating a vibrant community – a community that promotes resident enrichment, creates bonds with our neighboring cities, and generates revenue that goes directly into the locally owned businesses in our city.
