Fort Wayne was honored to be featured in Fodor's recent article, "10 Airport Perks That Will make You Wish for a Longer Layover" by journalist Sucheta Rawal. Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) was listed as offering some of the best airport amenities in the country highlighting its welcoming, easy-to-navigate, and traveler-first approach that reflects Fort Wayne’s hospitality, especially with accessibility.
What Makes FWA so Welcoming
Sucheta writes, "As a bonus, all arriving passengers are welcomed with complimentary freshly baked cookies from the neighboring Ellison Bakery!" The famous FWA cookie program, is a small gesture that is a signature part of the FWA experience. And when a person is passing you the cookie with a welcoming smile, they're a volunteer! FWA has a team of volunteers dedicated to making arrivals feel welcomed and accommodated.
Accessibility
"Welcomes people of all abilities to move through the terminal seamlessly." Fort Wayne has been growing in national attention as the fastest growing city in the Midwest, and for good reason. Our quality of life, restaurant scene, music scene, and parks and trails systems provide for a comfortable and affordable lifestyle for people of all abilities. Known for Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities, the 4th largest Paralympic training site in the country, Fort Wayne has surged ahead in amenities for residents and visitors with disabilities.
FWA welcomes athletes from all over the world competing in adaptive sports at Turnstone. This has led to a new lens of provisions for these groups of people, adding amenities that Sucheta highlights in the article such as:
- A cane trail throughout the terminal building
- High-contrast signage for travelers with visual impairments
- Tactile braille signage outside restrooms
- Adult changing tables for travelers with mobility needs
- Multiple seating options for travelers with varying needs

This project will also improve safety and operations by increasing aircraft taxiway separation from the terminal building." Curbless, wide sidewalks and ground level bag scales are more ways that FWA has enhanced the experience for all users.
