Spring in Fort Wayne means many things, but one of the big ones is the opening of The Fort Wayne Zoo! This year, you won't have to wait quite as long as usual for that big day. The zoo has traditionally opened in April, but in 2025, they kick things off with a season-long 60th birthday party on Friday, March 28. What are some highlights and new things the zoo offers visitors this year?

60th Birthday

The zoo has been in Fort Wayne for 60 years, and the celebration will go on all season long. On March 28, you're invited to the Entrance Plaza, where live musical performances will begin at 10:30 a.m. and there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11. Over the decades, 25,615,315 guests have visited the zoo. Be sure to add yourself and your family to that number!

This season kicks off with a totally new event for the zoo, called Glo Wild. The zoo brought in an outside company to put up this massive display, and construction has been in the works for the past month. Glo Wild is a nighttime lantern festival event featuring a one-mile path lined with dozens of lighted nature and animal displays, and will be offered on select dates in March through May. People of all ages are sure to enjoy the glowing atmosphere, where they can walk among a family of meerkats, gaze at a pair of glowing axolotls, or sit on a flower's petals. There are many interactive features, from photo spots and lighted video-style games to glowing instruments and a kaleidoscope tunnel you can walk into. There will also be special, unique-to-this-event Asian foods available for purchase. Some of the zoo's animals may be on display, but Glo Wild is focused on the colors and the lights.

Glo Wild nights need a special ticket (zoo members receive a discount). Plan on at least an hour or two to explore Glo Wild, which covers 90%of the zoo! See if you can find zoo director Rick Schuiteman's favorite display: the pandas. The lights are stunning at any time, but stay after dark for maximum "wow" factor.

Glo Wild will be open 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the following dates:
• March 27-April 6, daily
• April 9- April 30, Wednesday through Sunday
• May 1-May 25, Thursday through Sunday
• May 26, last day of the event

They will join our sea lions, Cassandra and Valkyrie. Be on the lookout for details on the upcoming ribbon cutting and official exhibit opening later this summer.

Wild Wednesdays

Have you attended a Wild Wednesday zoo event? If not, you're in luck, because they're back this season, sponsored by Lassus. Each Wednesday, May through July, the zoo will stay open until 8 p.m. to accommodate folks who work during the day. If you visit after 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, you'll get a great ticket value too: evening tickets are just $15.
