Fort Wayne, Indiana is a wonderful place. Part of that wonder comes from experiencing all four seasons. Each of the seasons has its own pleasures, and yet -- sometimes, winter seems to extend its stay here. Gray skies and weeks of cold temperatures without end can take their toll on even the biggest Fort Wayne fan. How about a few of these ideas for shaking the winter blues in Fort Wayne?

Winter Activities in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Visit the Botanical Conservatory

My absolute favorite place to visit on a dreary winter day is the Botanical Conservatory.

For just a few dollars, you can roam the large spaces here, full of sun and green plants. If you're craving the big skies of summer, head first to the desert environment (the farthest room of the conservatory). The glass ceilings will give you light, even on a cloudy day.

Need views of green, growing plants? The rainforest area (second room in the conservatory) is your spot. Here, you can walk beneath a waterfall and see fish swimming in a pool. The sights and smells can trick your brain out of its winter funk.

Get Moving

A great way to beat the blues is to get moving! You can do this in winter as well as any other time of year -- it just takes a bit more thinking. Try embracing winter by heading to the Headwaters Park Ice Skating Rink. Hike a trail at Fox Island -- if there are at least four inches of snow, you can cross-country ski here too.

If that's just too much cold, get your blood flowing at Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Lazer X, UltraZone and Combat Ops are all great possibilities.

Glenbrook Square

Stroll & Shop at Glenbrook Square

How about moving while shopping? You can do that at Glenbrook Square. There's plenty of walking available here: it's one of Indiana's three largest malls. You can even improve your mood with a little retail therapy from all the stores you'll pass. Don't miss the double-decker carousel near the food court.

Home and Garden Show at the Coliseum

Take in a Show at Memorial Coliseum

Memorial Coliseum hosts a number of winter-time shows that can help you shake winter weariness and look forward to more temperate weather. Typically you can expect a Farm Show, Boat Show, RV & Camping Show, and Home and Garden Show. Browse offerings, eat some good food and dream about days to come when you can bask in the sunshine.
