Discover Fort Wayne's newest address and the latest addition to the Electric Works masterplan. The Elex offers 1, 2, and 3-bedroom layouts, along with a curated range of amenities, including a private courtyard with green space you'll love. The interiors will charm you, and the views of Fort Wayne will inspire you. Named after The Elex Club, a group of GE-employed women dedicated to community and vibrancy, The Elex is more than just a place to live—it's a place to call home. We chatted with Gus Gutierrez, Marketing & Communications Manager for The Elex, and here's what we learned.

Question 1:

Why the name Elex?

The name "Elex" is a tribute to the Elex Club, founded in 1916 with the motto “united we build.” The club's name is derived from the Latin word for Electricity. Until 2011, the club provided a vibrant social and educational space for GE employees, supporting team members in need, ensuring proper working conditions, organizing activities and events, and offering enriching trips and classes. The Elex Club became renowned for its community-focused projects and hosted events that extended beyond the General Electric campus.

Question 2:

There are two buildings that make up the Elex, can you tell us about each and their unique offerings?

The first building, ready for move-in by early August, is age-restricted (55+) and offers both income-based and market-rate rental options. It features one- and two-bedroom layouts, with the ground floor hosting commercial tenants offering retail, fitness and wellness spaces.  More on this to be announced later.

The second building, set to be move-in ready by early 2026, welcomes all ages and introduces three-bedroom options for potential renters. This building will house the major amenities for the Elex community, including a pet care station, outdoor entertaining spaces, a cold plunge station, and sauna, amongst many others. There will also be select income-restricted units to enhance housing accessibility. An early childhood learning center on the ground floor will provide quality childcare for the community and Electric Works tenants.

Question 3:

Tell us more about the childhood learning center planned for the Elex:

We are thrilled to partner with a female-led, minority-owned business with an established reputation in the childcare space. They will expand their services within a 10,000+ square foot space on the ground floor, and we are excited to see them launch. A public announcement will be made once details are finalized.

Question 4:

Tell us about the affordable housing units offered:

Affordable housing units at The Elex are designed for individuals who meet income-eligibility criteria based on the Area Median Income (AMI). This ensures that various income levels are accommodated, making quality housing accessible without sacrificing location, amenities, or construction standards. The goal is to offer housing at diverse price points, ensuring everyone can find a home that suits their needs.

Question 5:

We hear there is an impressive mural installation coming to the Elex (the biggest in Fort Wayne??). Tell us about the inspiration behind this decision and what the mural will represent.

We are bursting with excitement to reveal the artist and concept for the mural! An international guest artist has been selected after a worldwide call for entries. The mural will wrap around the parking garage along Lavina Street, and an official announcement will be made later this spring. Stay tuned!

Question 6:

Which amenity are you most excited for residents to enjoy?

That's a tough one! We are incredibly proud of the unique amenities we are offering. Residents will have access to a private courtyard equipped with outdoor entertainment features such as seating areas, a sauna, a cold plunge station, an outdoor theatre, pizza oven, grills, and beautifully landscaped spaces that exude relaxation and home. The Elex Club, inspired by luxury hotels, serves as the welcome space opening up to the grand courtyard. It offers indoor entertainment and lounge areas that can be reserved by residents, an indoor mailroom and parcel room, and various areas that serve as extended living rooms where residents can gather and socialize.

Question 7:

When do you expect to open and how can interested parties get on a waiting list for the Elex?

We are now pre-leasing! Interested individuals can visit our website at www.elexliving.com to learn more about the community, ask questions, or proceed with an application. We anticipate move-ins for the age-restricted building to begin in early August, with the second, all-ages building ready by early 2026.

Question 8:

Anything else you’d like to share about the project?

Absolutely! We are incredibly proud of the rich history that surrounds us at the Electric Works campus. We can't wait to see 296 new addresses become part of the vibrant community, participating in unique events and nearby traditions like the Broadway Stroll and West Central’s Historic Home Tour. One of the best perks of leasing in a new apartment community is that early applicants have the opportunity to choose their unit and be the first to enjoy a brand-new home, with all the advantages that come with it.
