Ask Mike Hall what he thinks his business – Powers Hamburgers - has to offer customers that they can’t get anywhere else and he says “We serve the best hamburgers in town."
A Look at Powers Hamburgers in Fort Wayne
It all has to do with technique and quality. “The burgers are good because we use ground chuck and grill the onions right on them,” he said. “Customers tell us they are almost addictive.”
The diner is situated in downtown Fort Wayne. Besides offering a cozy atmosphere and convenient location with lots of parking, Powers gives customers the chance to sit on barstools while chowing down some of the smallest burgers they’ll ever meet. Hall said the average customer orders 3-4 hamburgers.
Another popular menu request at Powers Hamburgers is a breakfast item called ‘Garbage’ -- potatoes, great peppers, onions, eggs, ham and cheese. The restaurant also serves biscuits and gravy, pies, cakes, and donuts.
Powers Hamburgers has been open in Fort Wayne since 1940, making it one of the longest-running restaurants in Fort Wayne. It was operated by the Powers family until 1999 when Hall purchased it and began running the business.
Generally, lunch is the busiest time to order, but Hall sees many customers at 5 am.
“People stop in for breakfast but we also do a good amount of burgers for people getting off of third shift."
Friday and Saturday are the busiest days of the week as families come in to eat together. As might be expected, prices have risen since the Powers family first offered burgers for five cents in the 1940s.
Hours of operation: Monday-Friday 5am-10pm. Saturday 6am-10pm. Closed Sundays.
