The Baer Field Speedway!
Located south of Fort Wayne International Airport and two miles west of State Road 1, the Speedway came into existence in the 1960s as a go-kart track.
Originally, the track was called Baer Field Raceway. Some changes have occurred over the years. The track ran sparingly from 1974 through 1977. Since 1978, it has held races on a weekly basis.
In 1997 Turns One and Two were built through the infield. Now drivers have the option of running cars on the 3/8 mile track as well as a half-mile track.
A few years ago, a motocross track was built on the far end of the property’s parking lot. The track accommodates motorcycles and dirt bikes with jumps.
The half-mile oval track attracts 1,000 fans per night. The racing divisions that run each Saturday night involve 70-100 cars.
The Speedway is family-friendly. Beer is sold, but one section of the grandstand is a family section with no alcohol allowed. There is also a picnic area where families can put out blankets and watch the races.
