Local activity options for the MTJA Spring 2022 Conference. 

Bike on the Pufferbelly Trail along the Rivergreenway in Fort Wayne

Saturday, April 30: Downtown Fort Wayne 

For one half of the day, you will be able to enjoy a walking tour of Fort Wayne with numerous interactive stops along the way!

For the other half of the day, you can choose your specialized activity:

Discover your Family History at The Genealogy Center
Fort Wayne is home to the nation’s second-largest genealogy center, the premiere place to discover and explore your family history. Guests on this tour will be able to send their known family information in advance and spend hands-on time with an experienced genealogist, who will help you uncover family information that has been lost to time.

    Participants in this experience will be required to submit their known family information to us by March 31 in order to participate in the hands-on experience.

Take to the River and Trails for Active Recreation
Choose this tour to spend the afternoon exploring Fort Wayne’s rivers and trails by bike, kayak, even Segway! Our tour guides will help you explore and enjoy downtown’s extensive outdoor offerings – with options for every activity level!

On Sunday, everyone will be able to enjoy the nationally-recognized Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. In addition, we are offering unique activity choices with specialized story ideas! Please rank these tour options:

Turnstone: Adaptive Sports Experience
Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities has been providing adaptive sports and recreation for more than 20 years. As one of eleven Paralympic training sites in the United States, Turnstone offers competitive and recreational opportunities in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, power soccer, indoor rowing, adaptive golf, sled hockey, boccia and more. 

    Participants in this experience will be able to meet Paralympic athletes, and try their hand at adaptive sports including Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball, and more.

History and Architecture
Tour Fort Wayne’s rich history and learn about the origin of The Landing, tour historic and architectural sites (including a Louis Kahn-designed Arts Campus!), and visit the Historic Old Fort – where you may even shoot a cannon! 

Fort Wayne Makers
Fort Wayne’s artists will guide you through a makers-tour of our community. Hands-on experiences will include being able to work on a mural in process, operate a centuries old printing press to produce custom stationary, assist in the distilling process, join a pastry chef, and more!
