On Tuesday, April 23 from 6:30 pm &#8211; 8:30 pm, the topic will be “Loving from the outside in, mourning from the inside out: helping yourself heal when someone dies”, for the public. On Wednesday, April 24 from 9:00 am &#8211; 3:30 pm, the topic will be “When grief is ‘complicated:’ a model to understand, identify and companion grievers”, for members of the professional caregiving community explore the critically important topic of “complicated” grief. These workshops are made possible by D.O. McComb &amp; Sons.<br /><br />Dr. Alan Wolfelt, author, educator, and grief counselor of international reputation, will be the presenter of these programs. A past recipient of the Association for Death Education and Counseling’s Death Educator Award, Dr. Wolfelt is Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Alan Wolfelt will present his model for understanding, identifying, and companioning grievers lost in the wilderness of grief.<br /><br />After a significant loss, grief is normal and necessary. But sometimes a mourner’s grief becomes naturally heightened, stuck, or made more complex by especially difficult circumstances surrounding the death or complications surrounding the nature of the relationship.<br /><br />The workshop content will include exploring the origins of complicated grief, risk factors, common symptoms, sub-categories of complicated grief (unembarked, impasse, off-trail, and encamped), and provide specific guidance on caring for complicated grievers. He is also a faculty member of the University of Colorado Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine.<br /><br />In addition to presenting dozens of keynotes and workshops across North America each year, Dr. Wolfelt facilitates training seminars for bereavement caregivers in Fort Collins, CO and Scottsdale, AZ.
