The History Center presents Miami Indian Heritage Days beginning Saturday, May 4 at the Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne. Learn about the lasting heritage of the Miami and other regional Native American groups. Local artists, performers, and presenters will be featured the first Saturday of the month from May to November from 1-4pm.

The Chief Richardville House or Akima Pinsiwa Awiiki, is recognized as the oldest Native American structure in the Midwest. Admission to Miami Indian Heritage Days includes a guided tour of this National Historic Landmark. 

“Traditional Miami Indian Drumming, Singing, and Dancing with the Medicine Woman Singers” will kick-off the season on Saturday, May 4 at 1pm.

June 1 - Fiber Arts: Cording and Twining with Greta Sirios

July 6 - Cookware from Local Clays: Making and Using Replica Native-Style Pottery with Erik Vosteen

August 3 - Miami Ribbonwork with Diane Hunter

September 7 - Miami Harvest: Edible and Usable Plants and Materials with Dani Tippmann

 October 5 - Wikiami Cattail Matting at the Longhouse with M.I.A.M.I. (Miami Indian Alliance of Miami Indians)

November 2, 10-5pm & November 3, 12-4pm - Traders Days: Traditional Miami and regional tribes’ crafts, goods, and wares for sale, as well as hands-on demonstrations and interactive educational programs. This event is free to the public.
