Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran, Lecture and Performance


Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran is a multi-faceted musician, composer, music-educator and scholar specializing in ensemble music, historical performance and cross-cultural work. He is known for 25 years of pioneering work in Indian American choral music, building community around music, and a large number of works and collaborations with leading musicians from around the world. This recital will present an aural journey through the sound-worlds of Indian Classical Music. Kanniks will demonstrate the structures of alaap, bandish’, dhrupad, tarana, kriti and other compositional forms and rhythmic elements and lead audiences through an interactive performance.
