The Laramie Project tells the stories of real people who lived at the epicenter of one of the nation’s most heinous anti-gay hate crimes, the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998. One of the most frequently performed plays in America, The Laramie Project is based on interview transcripts with residents that recall how the attack affected the town. The play’s messages still resonate with audiences today as they face the hate they encounter in their own lives, and work collectively to build a more understanding and compassionate community.
