Summer Fun on Fort Wayne, Indiana's Three Rivers!

Fort Wayne, Indiana: a city built on three rivers, right? Quick quiz: can you name those rivers? You can find them listed at the end of this post.

So, how many times have you visited those rivers? I'm embarrassed to admit that I've seen very little of the rivers, and I've lived here nearly 30 years. There's no excuse for not enjoying the rivers,  especially now with the renewed focus on developing our riverfront.

Since Fort Wayne’s establishment, our three rivers: the St. Mary’s, the St. Joseph, and the Maumee, have been an intrinsic part of the city. Winterval - Fort Wayne's Winter Party

While a festival seems most suitable for summer temperatures, many cities across the globe host festivals in Winter.  Quebec City has a winter carnival (complete with camping - oh my!), Harbin, China has a snow and ice festival, and they celebrate Winterlude in Ottawa, Ontario.  Luckily, here in Fort Wayne, we don't have to sit Winter out either - we have Winterval!  Winterval, Fort Wayne's celebration of winter, is back for its fifth year on January 30, from 10 am-4 pm.

Winter - The Lesser Season?

While Mr. Eliot had the luxury of going south in Winter, not all of us are able. But, I have decided after the better part of 40 years living in a cold place, I will stop fighting the natural flow of the seasons (and wishing I was some place warm), and try to find beauty in the cold and the snow.
