Get Green is coming to town March 17th for a day of festivities for the entire family. To really get an insider look at the event, I interviewed Clifton Dickerson, a Fort Wayne Firefighter.
Best kid activity? The Lucky Charms eating contest and the Gold Coin Drop, kids pick up as many coins as they can and get to keep the lucky gold! We are also incorporating moonwalks and other games.
Best adult activity? It really depends on what you are looking for. The Strong Man competition goes on all day, the 5k Kilt race is fun for all ages, the food and adult fun that take place in the evening with live music by the Freak Brothers. Clifton likes it all!
Community favorite? Greening of the river at the Old Wells Street foot bridge.
Firefighter’s favorite? The event as a whole.
What is the goal of the event? To raise money for charity, money is divided between the Breast Cancer Foundation, the Firefighters Scholarship fund (benefiting the children of firefighters) and the Fallen Heroes Fund(for firefighters and police officers)
What can you expect to see there? All age groups, activities all day, there really is something for everyone. There is also a major change this year. We have outgrown our old location at Headwaters Park and we will have a tent set up at the Ewing/Wells St. Bridge.
Best place to head afterwards?Hopefully home because you had so much fun at our event!
(In case you are not ready to go home, this writer recommends that you check out JK O’Donnell’s, O’Sullivan’s and the Green Frog for after-party celebrations!)
