One of Fort Wayne’s many treasures is The Genealogy Center at the Allen County Public Library. The Genealogy Center is home to the nation’s largest public genealogy collection and is housed in a gorgeous $65 million facility.
The Genealogy Center is home to over 456,000 print volumes and 660,000 microfilm resources. These holdings include family and local histories from the United States, Virgin Islands, Ireland and Eastern Europe.
The five rooms of The Genealogy Center and its online catalog include international collections, historical periodicals, ship passenger lists, military regimental histories, southern plantation records, Native American census and tribal records – to name a few. The Genealogy Center offers several computer banks for research, as well as wireless internet services throughout the facility.
The Genealogy Center is led by a trained genealogy staff and provides free resources to get visitors started in their genealogical research.
