One of my favorite memories as a kid was attending the Mizpah Shrine Circus on my 8th birthday. Our second grade school class was planning a trip there on my big day which was February 3. I had never been to the circus and it was so exciting to think of going with my school chums! It was very cold on the bus, but once we arrived I forgot about being cold as we saw so many great things. There were circus acts with trapeze artists flying through the air. Horses that looked so elegant with their pretty purple plumes and pretty lady riders who flipped around on the horses’ backs while they ran around the track. The elephants scared me. Surely no one could tame them to do tricks! But the pachyderms bowed on their knees, balanced their hooves on each other’s backs and nodded heads, all at the command of their trainer. Many years later I took my own children to the same circus and paid for us to ride an elephant —stinky and scratchy but fun! Take a child to the Mizpah Shrine Circus this year and create a memory.
