Long weekends, like Memorial Day, provide a great opportunity to get a better taste of Fort Wayne. Regardless of your interests or hobbies, there is something to keep you entertained during the holiday weekened. Here are a few ideas:

For the family: Catch the annual Memorial Day parade at the Coliseum! The parade will be on Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. and start at Northside High School parking lot and end at Memorial Hall on the northwest end of the Coliseum.

For the history buff: History comes alive at the Old Fort at 1201 Spy Run Ave. Reenactors and veterans tell tales of what it was like to serve the country from the French & Indian War through the present, 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 24. Speaking from experience, you can't get much more authentic than this. The Old Fort is an all-volunteer organization, which means the people are really passionate about their hobby. You can tell they put a lot of time into their costumes and props. The event is free, but donations are encouraged. For more informatiom, call (260) 437-2836.

For the athlete: What better way to kick off summer than by doing something physical? Even better. why not do it as a group? The nationally known Color Run is coming to Parkview Field at 1301 Ewing Street in downtown Fort Wayne May 23, to challenge and inspire. What makes this race unique is its premise. Runners are doused with paint at each mile marker. Just be sure to wear white and you're ready for the fun! Cost is $45 per runner.

For the adventurer: Go for the outdoors and head over to Zip Timber Lake! Soar through the tree tops on this 8-Zip Line courses. Experience 4 sky bridges, a dual racing zip and 3 lake zips including 1,000 ft. zip over a 12 acre lake! Located at Camp Timber Lake campground. Veterans can book a Zip Tour over the Memorial Day weekend for 15% off! Book at www.ziptimberlake.com and enter coupon code: WELOVEVETS2015.

For the music lover: As the daughter of a Woodstock go-er, I was raised listening to 60s and 70s rock.  Naturally I appreciate the Beatles. If you share a love for John, Paul, George and Ringo, Beatlefest May 23 at the Main Library Plaza at 900 Library Plaza is a must. Starting at 6 pm, take in the music of several local bands. Local pizzaeria Pint & Slice usually has slices available for purchase. I recommend the Greek, if they have it. Oh and the best part is the library shows are family friendly. So feel free to bring the whole gang!
