This year’s Johnny Appleseed Festival is in the history books, and it certainly was a memorable event! Festival-goers enjoyed sunny skies and comfortable temperatures throughout the weekend, making it a great time to enjoy the event’s scrumptious food (oh, the food!), Pioneer-era demonstrations, storytelling and skits, musical performances, craft booths and more! Each year, my children and I look forward to attending this weekend-long shindig, largely because it’s not your run-of-the-mill festival. (You can search high and low, but you surely won’t find any elephant ears or other traditional carnival fare.) The food at Johnny is Appleseed is a huge part of what makes this festival so great – you can enjoy plenty of once-a-year treats, including bottled root beer, homemade chicken ‘n dumplings, freshly-baked cornbread and more. There’s even a farmer’s market, where you can buy bushels of sweet apples, seasonal produce, apple cider and more. If you missed this year’s festival – or if you attended and simply didn’t get your fill – mark your calendar! Next year’s festival will take place Sept. 15, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 16, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We’ll see you there!
