The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis (USF) will present ‘Steel Magnolias’ at the USF Performing Arts Center beginning March 23. Each year the students of USF produce two theatrical productions, a musical and a drama. This play, a drama, focuses on six women from a small town in Louisiana. Like many women, they gladly support each other through many of life’s triumphs and tragedies. While humor is a pervasive element throughout the story, it is primarily one that tugs at your heart strings. It would be a good event to see with a friend, mother or other female relative. Heck, even men could learn something from it. The 2000 film version was a major hit starring Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, and Olympia Dukakis. Brad Beauchamp, a recognized name in Fort Wayne theater, will direct. Performances will be held at the USF Performing Arts Center (formerly the Scottish Rite Center) located downtown at 431 W. Berry St. Tickets are $10 for the general public. USF students, faculty and staff are free with USF ID. Performance times: • Friday, March 23, 2012 at 8pm • Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 8pm • Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2pm • Friday, March 30, 2012 at 8pm • Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8pm • Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 2pm For more information, visit www.usfpac.com.
