Fort Wayne may be far away from lakes or oceans, but that doesn't mean you have to go far to get the best of seafood. Chappell's Steaks and Seafood is the place to go for dinner--and more. And their recent renovation makes it all the more of a destination.

Chappell's Steaks and Seafood History

Gary Chappell first opened the doors of Chappell’s Seafood Market at 2723 Broadway in 1985. It was his dream and desire to provide fresh seafood to Fort Wayne. The convenience of ordering fresh seafood became such a great success that the ability to order a meal at the counter became a necessity. Within a year the restaurant evolved into a full-service establishment.

Fast forward to today. The restaurant, which is located in Covington Plaza on Fort Wayne's southwest side, was gutted last fall to prepare for new floors, seating, and ceilings. The full renovation was completed in mid-April and the restaurant is welcoming patrons to enjoy the new digs and menu. The updated menu includes more sandwiches and a salad bar and hot bar.

A free-standing stone fireplace has been added to enhance the ambiance. The space, once home to a piano bar, is now the main dining room for Chappell’s. The dining room has been updated to be more modern and sophisticated. The bathrooms are now compliant with ADA standards.

My husband and I went in for dinner a few weeks ago. We appreciated the wide selection and reasonably priced entrees. This restaurant would be equally suitable for both a business lunch and a romantic night out.

I ordered the salmon entrée and my husband ordered the filet. Both came with a salad and a side. They have a full bar and wine list if you are in the mood. Their key lime pie is also to die for.

Check them out for lunch or dinner at 6328 W. Jefferson Blvd.
