Kickstart Fort Wayne kicked off in a big way last year with the inaugural Kickstart festival! A celebration of bikes, art and music in downtown Fort Wayne, Kickstart is ready to become the official start of summer festival in its second year! On Saturday, May16, the Main Street Arts Campus will transform into a hot bed of biking, art loving, fairytale dreaming and more for Kickstart Saturday! This year's festival will be made up of a variety of exciting, and family-friendly events including Kickstart4Kids, YLNI Barr Street Market, Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle, Spring Trolley Shopping, Fairy Tale Fest and much more!

Last year's Kickstart Festval included the IPFW Sculpture with Purpose Project, including the big pinwheel outside of Visit Fort Wayne!

Kicking things off bright and early will be the Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle. This annual biking event welcomes riders of all ages and levels to participate! This year Spring Cycle will feature four different tour distances: 10 miles, 21 miles, 32 miles and 42 miles - allowing everyone from beginner to advanced to choose the perfect route for them to enjoy!

In conjunction with the Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle, there will be a new event called Kickstart4Kids! This event is a FREE kid-focused event during Spring Cycle that hopes to spread the joy of cycling to kids! Bring the family and enjoy free bicycle checks and hemet fittings, cycling safety tips and a kid/family bike ride.

Bring the kids to Kickstart4Kids!

Downtown Fort Wayne will once again have their popular Spring Trolley Shopping during Kickstart. This is a great opportunity to explore local Fort Wayne shops that may be a little off your beaten path! Some of my favorites on the trolley path include Beet Street Juicery, Emily's Haute Cottage, Antiques on Broadway and, of course, Visit Fort Wayne! Park your car near your favorite shop, and jump on the trolley. You're sure to find something unique!

Another popular event from last year's Kickstart festival is the Fort Wayne Youtheatre Fairy Tale Fest. The 2nd annual Fairy Tale Fest will feature live performances from Youtheatre, Fort Wayne Ballet and Fort Wayne Dance Collective all over the Arts United Campus. As someone who grew up loving fairytales, I'm pretty excited that this year's Fairy Tale Fest will have performances of Sleeping Beauty and Thumbelina, along with a number of other great acts! You'll also find family activities from FAME, face painting from T.A.G. Art Company, live storybook characters, a snowball fight with Elsa herself - and more!

Fairy Tale Fest is full of fun and whimsy!

That's certainly not all that you'll find to do during Kickstart! Other events include a live entertainment stage, the weekly Barr Street Farmers Market, a number of interactive activities, food vendors and the list goes on!

To further celebrate the Kickstart Festival, you'll be able to find tons of Kickstart activities throughout the month of May! Kickstart month will celebrate biking and the arts all month long with events like Trek the Trails, Bike to Work Day Breakfast, dAnce.Kontemporary and more. For the full list of Kickstart month activities vist the Kickstart website.
