Genealogy-2 They say you can’t know where you going if you don’t understand where you’ve been.  There’s no better place to learn about where you’ve come from then at the Allen County Public Library’s Genealogy Center.  Located in the Downtown Library, the Genealogy Center is not only a unique and valuable resource to NE Indiana but also to the genealogical community at large.  As the second largest Genealogical library, it holds one of the largest collections of genealogical documentation in the country. Their vast research collections, passion for helping people solve the mysteries of the past, and the ability to incorporate records from around the world, puts them at the top of their game. Who visits the Genealogy Center? Anyone who is researching his or her genealogy.  Whether you’re looking for a information on a grandparent or tracing your family history back through generations, begin your search at the GC. What will I find there? Over 340,000 printed volumes, over 550,000 pieces of documents on microfilm, and a seemingly endless supply of online sources to help you in your search.  You’ll also find a full staff of genealogy experts who are ready and interested in assisting.  These experts are at the top of their field and are willing to answer both the simple and complex questions. What if I don’t know what I’m looking for? The Genealogy team will help you get started.  Stop at the Ask Desk and speak to a reference librarian who will provide you with guidance, suggestions, and advice on your research. Where do I find them? The Genealogy Center is located in the Allen County Public Library main branch in Downtown Fort Wayne at 900 Library Plaza.  The Center is located in the Northeast corner on the library’s second floor. Are there any upcoming events that I can attend? Upcoming special events at the Genealogy Center include hosting The Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference 2013.  The conference invites librarians, archivists, and other information specialists to Fort Wayne’s Grand Wayne Center.  Attendees will have the opportunity to research in the nation’s 2nd largest Genealogical library, and be inspired by experts from around the country.
