Ok, I’ll admit it. Our house is a little obsessed with Broadway. We love the theatre and specifically, we love the classic musicals. This is why we’re thrilled to see Hello, Dolly! come to the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre. What a great, high energy show!
This show has been bringing audiences to their feet for nearly 50 years and this 50th anniversary tour stars no other than Sally Struthers as Dolly. Who better to play this bold strong willed character originated by Carol Channing in 1964? Critics say she “shines in Hello Dolly” and call her “scintillating”. Dolly requires a bold, dominate actress and it sounds like Struthers is fitting the bill. We can’t wait to see her in action!
There’s just something so classic about the vaudeville spirit Hello Dolly evokes. The show brings back the era of big production numbers and grand performances. Set in New York City in the late 1800s, it’s the story of a matchmaker who is on a mission to set up a wealthy businessman from Yonkers. The award winning score includes famous songs like “It Only Takes a Moment”, “Before the Parades Passes By”, and “Put on Your Sunday Clothes”. The original production won the Tony for Best Musical in 1964 in addition to 9 other Tonys that year. The music has become so famous over the last 50 years that the original cast recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
Audiences young and old will enjoy this high-energy show on Sunday November 3 at the Embassy Theatre in Downtown Fort Wayne. Tickets are available at the Embassy Theatre box office or online through Ticketmaster. Tickets start at just $34.90 and are still available. Get your tickets today. We’ll see you there!
