imea The Indiana Music Educators Association returns to the Summit City and Grand Wayne Convention Center this week for their annual professional development conference, as well as the IMEA Celebration of Music. This event will bring 3,000 attendees over 3 days to Fort Wayne! The goal of the IMEA Professional Development Conference is to focus on and improve the educational development for educators from elementary school through college.

music-1-2278 During the conference there will be a number of concerts and presentations from school's across the state open to the public at the IMEA Celebration of Music. This mini-festival will showcase some of the best of the best in music from all around the state! These include choirs, bands, orchestras, and many other unique musical ensembles. The performances will take place on Friday and Saturday and will be spread out throughout downtown. There are three performance locations for the public to view these amazing performances: First Presbyterian Church, The Grand Wayne and Convention Center, and the Allen County Public Library Main Branch. showchoir02 The groups performing during the IMEA Celebration of Music come from Indiana middle school's, high school's and university's - bringing a unique scope of song. One of the unique acts appearing will be the Charleston High School ScaliWags out of Charleston, Indiana, an acapella group that has competed in national acapella competitions. You can find their performance at 10:30am on Friday morning at First Presbyterian Church. Another great group coming to the IMEA Celebration of Music is the Ball State University Symphony Band. This collegiate group is comprised of approximately 65 undergraduate and graduate students who have attained an exceptional level of proficiency on their instruments, making them some of the best musicians in BSU's music program. They will perform at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in conference room C on Saturday at 9:30am. Don't miss the performance by the Dekald High School Showchoir's - Classic Connection and Sound Sensation.  Both of these groups put on a full set of songs with singing, dancing, costumes and more. You can catch them at the Grand Wayne Convention Center Anthony Wayne Ballroom at 1pm Saturday.
