Have you ever wanted to check out Science Central or the Botanical Conservatory for FREE? Well, Visit Fort Wayne makes that possible with the “Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown” event on Sunday, September 11 from noon to 5pm! Everyone is invited to check out all of the amazing attraction’s downtown Fort Wayne has to offer. 

New this year, are some great new events and activities for you to enjoy including:

Bicentennial Trolley Tours at the History Center

Enjoy a Trolley Ride while sight-seeing Fort Wayne historical sites. The History Center Bicentennial exhibit theme “200@200”,  will be sharing 200 objects that illustrate Fort Wayne's pivotal role in 200 years of Indiana's history. The History Center Bicentennial Celebration for “Be a Tourist” will also feature a portable jail cell on display in front of the History Center where visitors can take photos.

Bicentennial Celebration at the Allen County Public Library

The Allen County Public Library Downtown Branch will be offering Lincoln and Fine Book Room Tours. The Lincoln Tours will be at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm. The Fine Book Room Tours will be at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. Visitors and Locals can celebrate the Bicentennial by coloring postcards, and wishing Indiana a “Happy 200 Birthday” at the photo booth.

Parkview Field 9/11 Memorial Tribute

To kick off the Be A Tourist event, Parkview Field will be hosting a special Stair Climb. The 9/11 memorial ceremony begins at 9:59 am, with the stair climb at 10:28 am. This beautiful 9/11 memorial event would be a great event to pay tribute and commemorate the climb made by many who lost their lives.

University of Saint Francis – Downtown

Want to see the newest University of Saint Francis location? You can do so on Be A Tourist day! Check out USF downtown branch and enjoy a selection of short films. After enjoying a film, check out the Historical Women’s Club also located inside the new University of Saint Francis Downtown location. This former Mizpah Shrine building also has gorgeous architecture, to take in and enjoy.

This amazing FREE event will also offer 16 Fort Wayne museums and attractions for everyone to enjoy! So, mark your Calendar for Sunday, September 11th, 2016, 12pm - 5pm.

If you'd like to participate in collecting stamps at the attractions and museums you visit during Be A Tourist, be sure to pick up your free “Passport” at any Kroger or Old National Bank and to plan out how you're going to see all of the awesome attractions!
