For the past decade – and for nearly a decade before that – Avenged Sevenfold has been bringing metal to the masses, and that continues on Tuesday, September 20 when Avenged Sevenfold rocks the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum here in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

My friend Jake and I took a road trip recently and decided to listen to the Guitar Hero II soundtrack, which someone had handily compiled on Spotify. A glimpse at my life a decade ago would reveal that I spent most of my free time playing Guitar Hero (and Rock Band). Although I haven’t picked up its latest iteration, I have fond memories of jamming on that plastic guitar to a lot of songs I knew and loved and some I didn’t. I mention this because it’s where I first heard Avenged Sevenfold. Even though the included track “Beast and the Harlot” was a cover, I really dug it, considering, too, it’s not really the kind of music I listen to that often.

In addition to Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat, Killswitch Engaged, and Avatar. will be taking the Coliseum stage. Volbeat, a Danish heavy metal band together since 2001, recorded two of my favorite metal tracks of the last few years, “Heaven nor Hell” and “Fallen,” both of which can be found on their 2010 record Beyond Hell/Above Heaven

There are a lot of chances to see great live music in Fort Wayne this fall, and this is one of them. So throw those devil horns in the air and get ready to bang your heads!
