FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A major competition is coming to Fort Wayne this weekend.

The best SCRABBLE players from around the United States and Canada will compete in the 2016 North American SCRABBLE Championship at the Grand Wayne Convention Center from August 6-10.

More than 420 SCRABBLE professionals and amateurs will be vying for the coveted championship title and a cash grand prize, including the 2015 overall champion Matthew Tunnicliffe of Ottawa, Canada.

The competition features four divisions, an international division, and 31 rounds of championship pairings. Championship play will start on Saturday, August 6 at 9:00 a.m.

This is the first time Fort Wayne has hosted the North American SCRABBLE Championship. The event has previously been held in Reno, Nev., Buffalo, N.Y., Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas.
