“Themes from My Friends” will include works by Mozart, Street, Bartok, Vaughan Williams and others.  Music Director Andrew Constantine says it was not unusual for classical composers to write variations on other composers’ works or to incorporate folk music into their works. “Many were collectors of folk music for that very purpose,” he says.

This is the second season for the Lincoln Financial Foundation Signature Series, which offers a casual Friday evening performance and a more traditional Sunday afternoon performance by The Phil’s Chamber Orchestra.
“There’s a relaxing social time beforehand,” Constantine says of the Casual Series. “It’s a time for people to bring their kids along or for people coming back to (classical music). We’ve tried to create an atmosphere where people are comfortable. … We talk about the music before and during the performance.”  On Sunday, there’s a longer program, reserved seating, and a program that’s presented in a regular chamber music format.

Friday’s Casual chamber concert will feature Mozart’s Serenade in G Major; Street’s Adagio in E-flat; Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia On Greensleeves; Arensky’s Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky; and Bartok’s Rumanian Folk Dances. Sunday’s afternoon performance will include all of those selections, plus Rautavaara’s Suite for Strings.
