The fall months are a great time to explore Fort Wayne's historical neighborhoods. I love to walk around older areas of town, peek into old homes and talk to local residents. One of my favorite neighborhoods to explore is West Central, one of Fort Wayne's oldest neighborhoods, located just West of downtown Fort Wayne. In September, the West Central Neighborhood Association invites everyone to check out the charm of their premier, historic neighborhood.
The West Central Neighborhood Association Home and Garden Tour and ArtsFest, held September 12th and 13th, features historic homes, stunning art, great music and delicious food. Visitors can tour eleven different homes through out the neighborhood. Free horse-drawn, carriage rides are available to and from houses and gardens. Before, during or after home tours visitors can check out the ArtsFest which encompasses dozens of artists, well-known musicians, and local food vendors.
The West Central Neighborhood Association 2015 Home and Garden Tour is great for both young and old. The home and garden tour takes place Saturday, September 12th from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 13th from 11:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. ArtsFest takes place Saturday, September 12th from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 13th from 11:00 a.m – 10:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the Home and Garden Show are $14.00. Tickets may be purchased in advanced online for $14.00 and in person (Children 12 and under are free!) for $13.00; see the West Central Neighborhood Association's website for more information. Visitors can purchase tickets the day of the event for $15.00 at Swinney Homestead, 1424 W. Jefferson Blvd. or Artsfest, the corner of Wayne Street and Jackson Street. ArtsFest is a free event to attend – visitors don't need to tour homes to attend. West Wayne Street
