In the past year or so, Fort Wayne has been a hotbed for new locally owned restaurants and bars. It's been neat to experience this trend firsthand. Among the recent additions to the Fort Wayne nightlife scene is Nick's Martini & Wine Bar. Located in the East State Village, not far from the Acme, this place is just a few minutes away from downtown.

I checked this place out when it first opened. It was my friend's birthday and we wanted to celebrate with drinks. I didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the scope of the drink menu. There is really something for everything--beer, wine and of course martinis.

We sat at the bar, as all table seating was taken. My friend ordered a fancy martini, while I was in the mood for a red wine. I must say the pour was generous.  And I was impressed with the professionalism and quality of service. The prices weren't bad, either. We arrived after the kitchen had closed, but I perused the menu out of curiosity. They serve small plates and desserts-perfect for sharing.

The atmosphere conjured up that of a Chicago jazz club. Think dim lighting and light background music. You can catch local acts here regularly.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an after-dinner hangout. They are located at 1235 East State Blvd and open Monday-Saturday at 4 p.m. Kitchen closes at 10 p.m.
