When I first went to Salvatori’s Italian Restaurant on the southwest side of Fort Wayne, I didn’t know much about their food.  As someone who makes homemade calzones and pasta dishes, I was nervous: Would it live up to my expectations? Our meal started with a house salad and Italian dressing. The salad was a colorful array of vegetables and included tomatoes, green peppers, red onions and cheese. When I am eating out, I always choose the house dressing. At Salvatori's, the Italian dressing was zesty and flavorful and complimented the salad well.

Next I ordered the Salvatori supreme calzone, which had all the toppings of a supreme pizza including Italian sausage, pepperoni, red and white onions, green peppers, mushrooms, cappicola, black olives, and mozzarella cheese. A calzone is a pizza that is folded in half to create a pocket for all the fillings. The marinara sauce is included on the side. The result is a fantastic pizza experience. The dough was perfectly baked and the toppings inside were fresh, including the green pepper, which was crisp tender. The marinara was a perfect accompaniment, full of Italian spices and a zesty tomato sauce. Since calzones are not as popular as pizza, I will go back to Salvatori’s for this special pizza-lover’s treat, which is hard to find around Fort Wayne.

Another dish that wowed me was the Alfredo especial. This was recommended by our server, who was prompt, attentive and helpful. Delicious fettuccine noodles were smothered in Alfredo sauce with prosciutto, peas, red peppers, and parsley. It was a deliciously rich pasta, that was pleasantly enhanced by the accompanying vegetables and herbs. A third dish that was surprisingly good was the spinach-filled ravioli ordered by my daughter. Containing four cheeses and spinach smothered in Alfredo sauce, this was a rich and delicious meatless dish. As a cheese lover, I enjoyed the creamy flavors of the ravioli filling and Alfredo sauce, without feeling like the spinach overpowered the dish. My daughter even enjoyed the ravioli saying, “If you like spinach

and you like ravioli, you should get it!”

All in all, we were impressed with the food we had at Salvatori’s. Everything was served hot and tasted delicious.  The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and family friendly.  I highly recommend Salvatori’s when you get your next craving for Italian food.
