It’s no secret that Fort Wayne has turned its attention and affection to its three rivers. City officials and community organizations have been working to revitalize downtown for years, and at long last, there’s increased focus on our waterways. 

The spotlight is shining on the potential of our rivers, and more events are popping up to allow people a chance to truly enjoy them. For a full list of Riverfront events, visit www.riverfrontfw.org. Here are some highlights to put on your calendar this summer.

Books on the Bridge - A Family Storytime

When: June 20 and July 11, 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Where: Historic Wells Street Bridge

What: A collaboration between Riverfront Fort Wayne and the Allen County Public Library, this event invites families to enjoy summertime story time.  Guests should bring blankets or chairs.

Cost: FREE

Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races and Riverpalooza

When: June 25, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Where: Headwaters Park West

What: The Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council and Riverfront Fort Wayne will host the 2nd Annual event, featuring teams competing in Dragon Boat Races on the river, as well as entertainment, food trucks, and kid-friendly events all day.

Cost: FREE

Faces of the Fort Art Installation Opening Party

When: June 30, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Where: Historic Wells Street Bridge

What: Faces of the Fort is a temporary art installation that features colorfully painted large beach balls that will be installed in the water and under bridges. The opening will feature artwork, local food trucks, and activities for kids.

Margarita Monday- Paddle Socials

When: Mondays through October 17, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Fort Wayne Outfitters

What: Bring a kayak or rent one and join others for a weekly paddle social. Afterward, stop into Don Chavas’ for a margarita.

Cost: $10 with your own kayak, $20 to rent

The River Flows- A Special Concert with The Legendary Trainhoppers

When: July 21, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Historic Wells Street Bridge

What: The Legendary Trainhoppers will celebrate their new record and host a lively performance, along with special guests.

Cost: FREE

Bands on the Banks

When: August 13, 6:00 to 10:30 p.m.

Where: Fort Wayne Outfitters

What: A night of entertainment and recreation, featuring music, food from Bravas Food Truck and Dash In, and brews from Birdboy and Mad Anthony's. Bring your own chair or blanket.

Cost: $7
