Growing up my mom exposed my brother's and I to a lot of classic films, especially musicals. For the longest time I didn't realize that Danny Zucko wasn't the newest hunk to drool over, or that I wasn't going to be joining the Von Trapp family singers anytime soon. In fact, my mother's influence of more classic films and television shows has carried over into my adult life with my dog being named Gidget after my mom's favorite movies and tv show!
One of the more constant musicals we watched growing up, that remains one of my absolute favorite movies of all time is Mary Poppins. I've never had the chance to see Mary and the Banks children come to life in person, so I'm really excited that the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre will be bringing Mary Poppins to life with Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical!
For those unfamiliar with the lovely Mary, the Banks children and the charming Bert, you're in for a treat. Mary Poppins follows Mary, a mysterious woman hired by Mr. Banks to nanny his two children Jane and Michael. As Mary and the children get acquainted they begin to discover that Mary has some tricks, and a little magic, hidden up her sleeves (or more appropriately in her bag). Soon they meet charming, and multi-talented, Bert and adventure ensues! It is one of the most fun, and thought-provoking, musicals you'll ever see, and just thinking about it has me singing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in my head over and over again!
