It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost Christmas again. And that means it’s time to start thinking about Christmas presents. Some people are easy to shop for – throw something shiny at ‘em and you’re all set. Other people, however, are far more discerning. Almost invariably, the geeks in your life are the latter. So where in Fort Wayne do you shop for your comic book- and collectible-loving friends and family? Over the next two posts, I’ll give you three places that’ll make your life (or at least your Christmas season) just a little easier. I wanted to devote the first post in this two-parter to probably my favorite place in town, Books, Comics & Things. I’ve read comics since I was a little kid but only really started collecting them around the sixth grade. That’s when I discovered Books, Comics & Things. Established in 1981 as a used book store, the store has grown and changed over the years and now focuses primarily on selling comic books (current and back issues and graphic novels/collections), role-playing games, including card-based games like Magic: The Gathering, and various collectibles. You can find me there every Wednesday picking up the week’s new books (new comic books are always released on Wednesdays). Honestly, it’s probably the most consistent thing I do in my life. And don’t feel like you have to know exactly what you’re looking for when you visit, although it certainly doesn’t hurt. The staff is friendly and helpful and will do their best to help you pick out the perfect gift, and they do sell gift certificates, too. A quick word about the staff: Books, Comics & Things is a family-owned and operated business. Tracy Scott manages the Georgetown Square location, while his sister Judy manages the Time Corners store. The Georgetown location has always been my “home” store, so I know Tracy, Chad, and Courtney better than I do anyone else. I genuinely consider them my friends. If I didn’t, I would have long since found somewhere else to buy my comics. Books, Comics & Things has two Fort Wayne locations: 2212 Maplecrest Road and 5936 West Jefferson Boulevard. Call them at (260) 493-6116 and (260) 755-2425, respectively, or visit
