Owners Gus and Yalili Mesa arrived in Fort Wayne under less than ideal conditions after they were forced to leave Cuba when the Cuban government cracked down on Gus (specifically)and other journalists. With the downturn of the economy and language and cultural barriers to finding employment, Yalili had the thought of opening a restaurant.
In 2009, Caliente Cuban Café was opened and is now, undeniably, one of the tastiest places to eat in Fort Wayne. Everything they serve is made fresh daily. And as regulars know, the doors are open until they run out. Enjoy hot toasted Cuban sandwiches, sides like black bean soup, bread pudding, fried plantains, Cuban coffee and other specialties. Absolutely delicious.
