Dive into fall in Fort Wayne
Posted on October 01, 2013 at 9:00:37 am by Lauren C.
I used to not look forward to fall, but have come around in recent years. Comfort food, the beauty of a changing landscape, a cup of apple cider–what’s not to love? In addition to these seasonal markers, I also look forward to fall activities, too. Here are a few you might want to get on the calendar: Get fresh: The Roadside Produce Market is open seasonally from early August through December with seasonal items such as apples, tomatoes, apple cider, apple butter, pumpkins, squash, gourds and many other items. Go picking: What’s better than a crisp apple from the store? One you picked yourself, of course! Advanced Tree Technology’s “you pick” apple orchard is open 9:30 am to 7 pm, Monday-Friday and 9:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Cheer: Come cheer on the University of Saint Francis Cougars at the Bishop D’Arcy stadium, not far from downtown Fort Wayne. USF boasts Fort Wayne's first collegiate football program, playing in the NAIA league. Check out their schedule here. Get spooked: With Halloween around the corner, a good scare seems appropriate. The Haunted Castle/Black Forest, at 8965 Auburn Road Fort Wayne, is a favorite of mine. They opened on September 27 and continues until November 2. Check site for dates and times. Admission is $10.00 for Castle, $10.00 for Forest or $16.00 for a combo ticket. Bring a canned good and get $1.00 off of admission. Warm up: Crisp fall nights call for a cup of your favorite comfort drink. Chances are the Friendly Fox has something to hit the spot. Hello Snickers latte! Get moving: Running in race is a great way to stay in shape and compete against your peers. There are a few scheduled for this fall. Among them, Fort Wayne Trails is hosting the Blazer 5k/10k race on Sunday, October 20th at 2 pm, starting and ending at Summit Middle School on Homestead Road. The 5k route will be entirely on the trails, and the 10k route will be 80% on trails. Help support the development of more area trails by joining in the fun!
