Just south of downtown Fort Wayne, visitors discover a recently revitalized area known as 'SoCal,' due to its location on South Calhoun Street. As you peruse the local businesses there you may hear music floating from within the walls of one establishment. Since 2008, Donna Kessler has welcomed area bands to play at her restaurant, Calhoun Street Soup, Salads & Spirits (CS3). Today, the restaurant is often full of customers and musicians traveling to Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis who consider CS3 a good stopping off point for food, friends, and good music. The menu at CS3 includes fresh homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches for customers seeking a healthy mid-day meal. The after 5 o’clock crowd can order hardier fare, including burgers and fries. Since opening in 2007, Kessler has added specials like veggie baskets, chicken sandwiches, and her signature sandwich—the CS3 Club, consisting of grilled ham & turkey, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard on a pretzel bun. Patrons may dine while listening to music, and in warmer weather they can enjoy privacy on the restaurant’s cozy back patio. The restaurant also hosts banquets and parties. Ample parking spaces are available in lots surrounding the restaurant. Kessler has been recognized for her culinary success by her alma mater, Fort Wayne’s Ivy Tech. In addition, she has participated in such local food events such as Taste of the Arts and the Trolley Tour. She also supports local fundraisers for the March of Dimes and ARC. The Calhoun Street Soup Salad Spirits is a great place for tasty food, fun ambiance and to meet friends. 1915 S.
