Care to see a Broadway show? You don’t need to venture to the Big Apple! Traveling Broadway productions often visit the palatial Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne, and the spring 2017 season has something for everyone.

Cinderella (Rogers and Hammerstein) - January 17

Recommended for anyone

This fun classic by one of Broadway's great composition duos includes hits like “Impossible/It’s Possible.” This one is perfect for families.

MAMMA MIA! - March 7

Recommended for anyone (especially ABBA fans)

MAMMA MIA! is a jukebox musical, or a musical featuring songs by a popular artist or band. This particular jukebox musical is built around ABBA’s greatest hits, including “Honey, Honey” and “Dancing Queen." The plot centers around a young woman who, despite not knowing who her father is, wants him to walk her down the aisle. MAMMA MIA! Is appropriate for anyone who likes a good Broadway show (and especially for ABBA buffs).

Once - March 27

Recommended for 13+ (children may find it boring)

This contemporary love story won eight Tony awards and was nominated for eleven. It’s on my 2017 bucket list because of the soaring score, minimalist set, and quirky plot twists.

Pippin - April 18

Recommended for 13+ (mature content)

Pippin’s trippy plotline follows an archetypal as he discovers (the hard way) that there’s no place like home. This Tony award-winning show with music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz is informed by Faust and is a treat for the philosophically minded, with plenty of laughs and gasps along the way.

Rent - June 13

Recommended for 13+ (mature content)

With perhaps the most serious subject matter of the bunch, Rent (by Jonathan Larson) takes place in the AIDS-stricken 80s East Village of New York City. Based on Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème, it chronicles the lives of a group of friends as they experience love, poverty, and loss.

Grab your tickets for one of your favorite Broadway shows, and make it a weekend in Fort Wayne with other fun events and activities!
