A Night of Fright in Downtown Fort Wayne

There are many things to love about fall. I love the beautiful colors of leaves changing, football, bonfires with the family, and of course, Halloween.

For years, my family and I have hosted Halloween parties, decorated our house with tombstones and scary pumpkins, and visited our local haunted houses for thrills and chills. There is no Halloween event that excites us more than Fort Wayne’s annual “Fright Night”.

Downtown’s Zombie Walk

On October 20th, downtown Fort Wayne will be taken over by ghosts, goblins, and zombies of all ages. Fright Night is an all-day event that runs from noon ’til midnight. More than fourteen cultural establishments will host activities that will be fun for all ages.

If you love the Walking Dead, you can transform yourself into a lifeless zombie and participate in the popular Zombie Walk. Young children will enjoy the Halloween Haunt, an event featuring pumpkin bowling, face-painting, and a scavenger hunt.  Pumpkin carvers will love a visit to the Pumpkin Zone where they will see creative pumpkin carving demonstrations and enjoy pumpkin games.  Those looking for a real scare can spend time in the Historic Embassy Theatre with Indiana’s Paranormal Inquisitor on a real, live ghost hunt.

There are so many great activities that I get excited thinking about them all. Fright Night offers both free and pay events.  Visit frightnightdowntown.com to learn more about this awesome event.

If you love Halloween as much as I do, you will not want to miss Fort Wayne’s Fright Night.  Grab your family, find your favorite costume, and head downtown Fort Wayne on October 20th.  You are guaranteed to have a spooktacular time!

Halloween at the Zoo

Fall in Fort Wayne is a festive time of year, there are many events around town that celebrate the season. The month of October brings the sights and sounds of Halloween to The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo.

Wild Zoo Halloween gives families an opportunity to enjoy the amenities of the zoo while partaking in kid-friendly Halloween fun. Children can pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, visit the Mummy’s kitchen, trick-or-treat for candy along three treat trails, and navigate a corn maze.

The daily costume parade allows the children to strut their stuff while wearing their favorite costumes. All of this Halloween fun, and more, can be enjoyed while visiting most of the animal attractions. Wild Zoo Halloween is an event that is fun for all ages.

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is one my family’s favorite places in Northeast Indiana.  Halloween just happens to be one of our favorite holidays.  When you put the two together, we believe you have an amazing, festive, fall event that can be enjoyed by the entire family.  My children are too old for costumes and trick-or-treating, but I know that we will attend the Wild Zoo Halloween and enjoy every minute.

Wild Zoo Halloween is open October 19-21, 25-28, and 31st from noon to 5 p.m. daily.  You can learn more about this great family event by clicking here.  Go ahead, click it, and enjoy Halloween at the Zoo!

The not-so-scary side of Fright Night

When my children were young, they dreaded the holiday traditions I thought they’d love. They hated sitting on Santa’s lap and they cried and screamed on Halloween more than the ghouls did. That’s why I’m glad that Fright Night in Fort Wayne on October 20th has plenty of kid-friendly events earlier in the day.

Take a stroll on the punkin path!

The Pumpkin Zone at the Botanical Conservatory opens at 10 am. There will be pumpkin putt-putt and other games as well as pumpkin crafts. You can get some great ideas from a pumpkin carver, and share the childhood memory of tasting pumpkin seeds with the kids. The outdoor Punkin’ Path is included in admission and is a great photo op! The path will be decorated with pumpkins, gourds, bales of straw—and gnomes! There’s another game for the family. Who can spot the most gnomes on the Punkin’ Path?

The Community Center at 233 W. Main Street opens at 2 pm for the Halloween Haunt. You can play Halloween cornhole, pumpkin bowling and Pick the Pumpkin. The whole family can participate in the skeleton scavenger hunt and watch the kid-friendly Halloween movie. The tweens and teens will love reading the tombstones in the graveyard out in front, and they can use a real coffin for a fun photo op. Admission to the Halloween Haunt is free!
