Family Fun at the ARCH Fall Festival at the Fort!

Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the school year routine? Want to enjoy the Indian Summer weather but not sure what to do since the summer festival season is over? Look no further than the ARCH Fall Festival! This one day event takes place on Saturday, October 8th from 4-9 pm at Historic Fort Wayne (or the “Old Fort” as the locals would call it) located at 1201 Spy Run Avenue in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This is truly an all-ages event. Think of it like a school carnival, but more fun! Admission is free and tickets are cheap! There will be about 10-12 carnival type games (ring toss, face painting, lollipop trees). Tickets are 2/$1, 7/$3 or 12/$5. Contests such as pumpkin bowling, pumpkin carving (great idea! do it here and I don’t have to clean up that mess at home!), apple bobbing and tug of war are $5 each for adults and $3 each for kids.

And what about dinner? Don’t worry, ARCH has thought of that too! Popcorn, hot dogs, chips, drinks and cotton candy are all priced at $1 or less. Take home some homemade goodies from their bake sale to enjoy for dessert. Oh, who am I kidding? Those bake sale treats never make it any farther than the car (if I’m lucky).

The fun doesn’t stop there; enjoy ghost stories around a bonfire and enjoy an ARCH tradition – Fright Site Hikes! The hikes start at 9 pm, last about 90 minutes and are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-17 and kids under 5 are free.

For more information, check it out online, or give them a call at 260-426-5117.

See Ron White in person this weekend!

Comedian Ron “Tater Salad” White is best known as the cigar smoking, scotch drinking funnyman from the “Blue Collar Comedy” phenomenon. But with two Grammy nominations, a Gold Record, three of the top rated one-hour TV specials in Comedy Central history, a book that appeared on the New York Times Best Seller List, and CD and DVD sales of over 10 Million units, Ron has established himself as a star in his own right. Over the past 5 years he has been one of the top 3 grossing comedians on tour in the United States.

Enjoy Ron’s sense of humor in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana at The Historic Embassy Theatre on September 25th at 7:30 pm! Click here to purchase tickets online.

Cathedral Museum-A Hidden Gem in Downtown Fort Wayne

I decided to take a nice, relaxing Thursday afternoon in the beginning of August to enjoy Lunch on the Square and the Cathedral Museum with my kids. The Cathedral Museum is located at 915 S. Clinton St. on the lower level.  The museum is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-2pm.  Admission is free and there is free parking in the garage attached to it (just be sure to stop at the receptionist desk to get your ticket validated).

Gorgeous stained glass artwork greets you at the Museum

The Cathedral Museum is smaller than most museums in Fort Wayne, but looks can be deceiving. There are hundreds of religious artifacts dating back to the time of Jesus Christ and Abraham.

Being born and raised here in Fort Wayne, I love that the also include alot of history from Fort Wayne and the religious leaders who lived here.

When you go, expect to see statues of Jesus, the Pope, and beautiful stained glass of previous Fort Wayne bishops, altars and a picture timeline of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Since the museum is open around the lunch hour, be sure to check out some downtown dining suggestions to add to your trip. While you are downtown already, you won’t want to pass up on the chance to visit one of our great local restaurants!

Welcoming Fort Wayne’s newest residents, one smile at a time

Visit us downtown at 927 S. Harrison Street.

Working at the Fort Wayne Visitors Center, I get many questions (both ‘normal’ and ‘unusual’) on a daily basis. One of the less common questions has been about relocating to Fort Wayne, until recently. I’m not sure how or why there has been an increase; I just know that I have information and suggestions to help your move go as smoothly as possible.

Most people don’t even consider stopping at the Visitors Center for relocation information (I never would have), but we should be your first stop. Visit Fort Wayne is located downtown at 927 S. Harrison St., on the corner of Washington Blvd. and Harrison St., downtown. We would love to welcome you to Fort Wayne and supply you with a Fort Wayne Visitors Guide (to help get you out and about at museums and attractions), a detailed city map, a list of local realtors, apartment guide, school information, restaurant maps, night life information, and even an old-fashioned paper phone book.

Feel free to stop in Mondays from 9:30 am-5 pm, Tuesdays-Friday from 8 am-5 pm, give us a call at (800) 767-7752 or visit us online at www.VisitFortWayne.com.

Welcome to Fort Wayne!

Nothing says Three Rivers Festival time like Junk Food Alley! Junk Food Alley is located at Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne, right next to the pavilion. And if all else fails, just let your nose lead the way!

Everyone has a favorite at Junk Food Alley!

Open daily from 11 am – 11 pm, you can satisfy your hunger or those nagging cravings anytime. In my honest opinion, no one can do Junk Food Alley like Fort Wayne.  You will see the ‘normal’ crowd pleasers like elephant ears, lemon shakeups and fried tenderloins. The list doesn’t end there (and just to get your mouth watering a little more) why not try a deep fried candy bar, Twinkie or cookie dough.  And new this year (drum roll please) red velvet funnel cake. Mmmmm.

If you are looking to have lunch with a friend or to take the whole family downtown for dinner, don’t worry, there is more than just desserts at Junk Food Alley. You can enjoy turkey legs, spiral spuds (one of my personal favorites), corn on the cob, gyros and donut burgers. What’s a donut burger? Just like it sounds – a burger patty between two glazed donuts – you can add lettuce and other veggies if you want, but why try to be healthy now?
