Fall in Love with the Beauty of the Season
Fall is here, which means that we will see a beautiful change from Mother Nature over the next few weeks.
We recently asked our visitors and residents: Where are your favorite places to leaf watch in Fort Wayne?
Responses included Rivergreenway (specifically in the Foster Park area) and many of the beautiful Fort Wayne Parks, (high on the list were the Lakeside Park and Rose Garden, Franke Park, Lindenwood Preserve, West Swinney Park and Headwaters Park.)
Another great spot to enjoy a wide variety of trees is on the Native Trees of Indiana Walk on the IPFW Campus. A great educational stroll anytime of year, you can really see how different species greet the change of season!
In addition, we spoke to Acres Land Trust for their expert opinions and insights on leaf watching. They suggested:
- Always start north during the beginning color changes and move south. This helps you capture and enjoy the prime times for each area.
- Acres is responsible for over 50 preserves stretching over 17 counties. They have plenty of options for everyone.
- The top 5 preserves that are recommended in Allen County are Dustin Nature Preserve, Bicentennial Wood Preserve, Vandolah Nature Preserve, Fogwell Forest Nature Preserve and Mengerson Preserve.
- The favorite for this week (October 2-8) is Vandola Nature Preserve.
